Gynecology clinic
Knips cervical biopsy
In cases of unclear cytological or colposcopic findings, we perform a cervical biopsy. The obtained sample is examined histologically, allowing for the early detection of precancerous changes. The examination is outpatient and short-term.
Main information
Cervical punch biopsy is an outpatient gynecological procedure in which the doctor uses special forceps to take a small tissue sample from the cervix for microscopic – histological examination. The procedure itself takes only a few seconds, is quick, and in most cases is not accompanied by significant pain.
After the procedure, slight bleeding may occur, which quickly subsides. To reduce the risk of infection, it is recommended to avoid sexual intercourse for a few days. The biopsy result will provide the doctor with important information about the health status of the cervix and help decide on further steps or treatment.
Why is a punch biopsy performed?
- More accurate diagnosis – if the cytology smear (Pap test) is unclear, punch biopsy can provide more definitive results.
- Confirmation of abnormalities – tissue sampling is often performed during colposcopy, which allows the doctor to precisely locate the sampling site.
- Decision on further procedure – histological results will determine whether only monitoring, further examinations, or surgical intervention (e.g., conization) is needed.
How does the procedure work?
- Process: the doctor uses special forceps to take a very small piece of tissue (only a few millimeters).
- Pain: the procedure is usually painless, some patients may perceive it as slightly uncomfortable.
- Bleeding: mild bleeding after sampling is common and using a sanitary pad is sufficient.
- After the procedure: it is recommended to avoid sexual intercourse for a few days to support healing and minimize the risk of infection.
What follows after the biopsy?
Histological examination results are available within a few days. Based on them, the doctor will explain the next steps to the patient – from regular monitoring to the need for treatment or surgical solution.
👉 Cervical punch biopsy is a simple, quick, and safe procedure that provides doctors with accurate information about tissue condition and plays a key role in cervical cancer prevention.
