Ophthalmology clinic
Diabetes – eye examination
Diabetes can damage the blood vessels in the retina – retinopathy. Based on a diabetologist's recommendation, we offer a retinal examination for early diagnosis.
Main information
Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease that requires the patient to monitor their blood sugar level.
If a patient is not disciplined and their blood sugar level fluctuates and is often higher than normal (up to 5.6 mmol/l), they are at risk of complications.
The most common complications include microangiopathies – damage to small blood vessels in the eyes – the retina (retinopathy), the kidneys (nephropathy) and the nerves (neuropathy).
When the blood vessels in the retina are damaged – retinopathy – there is a risk of severe visual impairment up to loss of vision (blindness). It is necessary to undergo regular retinal examinations and, in case of damage, to undergo treatment at a specialized ophthalmology center.
In our polyclinic, the ophthalmology clinic has the necessary equipment for the examination of the retina, and therefore, based on a diabetologist's recommendation, we offer an eye examination for the purpose of early diagnosis and, if necessary, we also arrange follow-up treatment at a specialized eye center.
